Green Toque: a Toque isolation, and the Toque family

01What Green Toque is

Green Toque is an isolation of the Toque line, a Psilocybe cubensis carried in the Mushrealm collection with the ISO tag. It is not a cross: one studied phenotype was selected out of Toque and worked until it came true, and Green Toque is the name that selection was given.

Toque has been worked hard enough by enough breeders to appear in the library under three different cards, which makes it one of the better families to study as a group.

02Lineage and history

The Toque line is best understood through its relatives, all of which are in the library:

• Green Toque, an isolation taken from Toque itself, this card.
• El Toque f2 (El Choco x Toque f8), a second-generation cross of El Choco with a Toque parent already taken through eight generations, credited to ClusterDuckMycology.
• Toque x Jack Frost, a cross that pairs Toque with the albino Jack Frost line.

03Under the microscope

Green Toque is a pigmented cubensis, so this is a straightforward specimen: purple-brown spores, subellipsoid and thick-walled with a visible germ pore, and a dense, even print. That makes it a good reference to hold the albino cards in this chapter against.

Because it carries the ISO tag, the population should measure tightly. Take twenty spores against a calibrated graticule and compare the spread with a multispore card; the difference between a worked isolate and a broad line is visible on the measurement sheet even when it is invisible in the field.
