Iceberg Clam 456 is an isolated Psilocybe cubensis line supplied as a LOT-logged spore syringe, carrying the ISO tag. The 456 is a selection number: the convention breeders use to distinguish one worked phenotype from another when several come out of the same population.

02Lineage and history

Numbered isolates are a good sign in themselves. A number implies a breeder who kept records, worked more than one selection, and needed a way to tell them apart. Reading those numbers as quality grades is the common mistake; they are identifiers, not scores.

03Under the microscope

Expect a pigmented cubensis population: subellipsoid, thick-walled, a germ pore at 1000x with oil, purple-brown in mass, dense print. The reference description is in our spore morphology guide.

Because it is a numbered isolate, the useful measurement is the size range. Twenty spores against a calibrated graticule should cluster; a wide spread would suggest the syringe is broader than the ISO tag implies, and that is a result worth recording either way.
