01What MFH Ape is

MFH Ape is a Psilocybe cubensis line from the Mushrealm collection, catalogued as an isolate and carrying the ISO tag. MFH stands for Manna From Heaven, and this card is the isolation taken from Manna From Heaven APE.

APE is Albino Penis Envy, the unpigmented form of the Penis Envy line and one of the two most-used parent groups in modern cubensis breeding. Manna From Heaven APE is a named line within that family, and MFH Ape is one studied phenotype selected out of it and stabilised.

02Lineage and history

The family history is well travelled. Penis Envy is a decades-old American isolation of uncertain exact parentage, named for its thick stem and small, rarely-opening cap. Albino Penis Envy is the unpigmented form, commonly described as a cross of Penis Envy with an albino cubensis and stabilised into a fully white phenotype. An isolation is one studied phenotype selected out of a population and worked until it comes true. That is what separates MFH Ape from a generic APE syringe: it is a selection from Manna From Heaven APE specifically, so the spores in one batch descend from a single chosen expression rather than the whole spread. That is exactly what you want when you are measuring.

03Under the microscope

APE lines are the family that teaches you contrast technique. The spores are the ordinary cubensis shape, subellipsoid and thick-walled with a germ pore, but they carry almost no pigment, so at 400x with the light turned up they all but vanish. Drop the illumination, close the condenser diaphragm partway, and the walls appear as glassy outlines.

The other family trait is the thin deposit. Penis Envy caps rarely open fully, so prints from the line are faint and APE prints fainter still. A drop from an MFH Ape syringe is sparse by nature, so dilute less than you would for a pigmented line. Set it beside a Golden Teacher or a DreadMaw drop and the difference in both pigment and density is the whole lesson.
