01What Snape 50 is

Snape 50 is an isolated Psilocybe cubensis line. SNAPE is the library's established shorthand for Starry Night APE, which the catalogue spells out on its own SNAPE card. The 50 is the selection number for this particular worked phenotype, the listing credits the original work to Kodama, and the line sits in the A.C.S collection carried through Mushrealm.

02Lineage and history

Starry Night APE belongs to the Albino Penis Envy family, which is the single most used parent group in modern cubensis breeding. That inheritance brings two practical consequences: little or no spore pigment, and a thin deposit, because Penis Envy caps rarely open fully. The family background is in Penis Envy and Albino Penis Envy.

SNAPE has itself been used as a parent. The library has carried Toque x SNAPE and El Dragon x SNAPE, which puts this line one step up the tree from several crosses rather than at the end of one.

03Under the microscope

Treat it as an albino slide. Same subellipsoid, thick-walled cubensis form with a germ pore, but almost no pigment, so turn the lamp down and close the condenser diaphragm partway rather than brightening the field. A print from an APE-family line runs pale, and a thin print is normal rather than a sign of a bad syringe.
