Spore syringe delivery in the UK: what to expect from order to letterbox

A syringe is a fragile, temperature-sensitive research specimen, so how it travels matters as much as how it was made. This is what happens between clicking order and opening the parcel, and what you should do in the first ten minutes after it arrives.

01Dispatch

Orders are prepared in the UK and dispatched in one to two working days. Syringes are filled to order in small batches under sterile protocol, LOT-logged and refrigerated until they are packed, which is why the LOT date on your label is recent rather than months old. Orders placed over a weekend go out at the start of the week.

02Packaging

Every parcel is a plain padded mailer with no branding, no product names and nothing on the outside to say what is inside. Inside, syringes travel capped and sleeved, with the LOT label on each one and nothing loose. There is no paperwork that describes the contents beyond the packing note, which uses the strain names only.

03Shipping cost and tracking

  • UK shipping is £3.80, and free on orders over £75.
  • Tracked via Royal Mail, with the tracking reference emailed when the parcel is scanned.
  • US orders ship at a flat $8; other regions are listed at checkout.
  • Every order is 18+ only and confirms lawful microscopy use at checkout.

04When the parcel arrives

  1. Open it and check each syringe against the packing note: strain name and LOT.
  2. Hold each syringe to the light. A fine, even haze is normal; a milky cloud or strands is not.
  3. Put the syringes in the fridge straight away, capped, in their sleeves. Our storage guide covers the rest.
  4. Take a first slide within the week so you have a baseline in your notebook.

If anything arrived damaged, cloudy or missing, email with a photo and the LOT number and it will be replaced. The LOT is on the label and on your order.

05A note on transit temperature

A few days at room temperature in the post does no harm to a well-made syringe; it is weeks of warmth that degrade a specimen, which is the problem with overseas orders that sit in customs. A UK-to-UK parcel is typically in the post for one to three days, and it goes back into refrigeration the moment it reaches you.
