Most names in this catalogue are one of three things. A landrace, named for where the original collection was made. An isolate, a line narrowed to a single stable phenotype, usually marked iso. Or a cross, with both documented parents printed in brackets after the name.
Where a breeder released the line, we credit them rather than rebranding it. That is why the same strain can appear under different collection names elsewhere.
These are the two things people most want a strain list to tell them, and they are the two things a microscopy library cannot and should not answer. Potency is a property of the fruit body, which we neither supply nor discuss.
What can be said usefully is which lines are morphologically distinctive, which are well documented, and which have a traceable lineage. That is what this index is organised around.
Want the parents and descendants of a line rather than the stock list? Strain Origins records the lineage of more than 240 named strains, A to Z.
